Netaji subhash chandra bose Birthday |  Netaji subhash chandra bose's birthday as 'Desh Prem Divas':

West Bengal government on Sunday observes birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as ''Desh Prem Divas'' following a proposal by Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

All schools in the state have been asked to make suitable arrangements to commemorate the occasion.

CM of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharya proposed to commemorate the birthday of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose as the “Desh Prem Divas” and the schools have been directed to make arrangeents for the celebration. It’s the 114th birth anniversary of the brave soldier who was courageous enough to create his own army by the name of Azad Hind Fauj to challenge the British and all we can do is remember and honor the leader this day.

There has been an RTI application however by activists Chandrachur Ghose and Anuj Dhar who wish to get a copy of the unpublished manuscript detailing the foundation and history of Azad Hind Fauj from the Ministry of Defence and the Delhi Hogh Court has brought a stay order on the CIC’s (Central information Commission) order to issue the same.

Chalasani Pandu Dead | Chalasani Pandu Telugu Desam Party Leader Found Dead At his Flat

Chalasani Pandu Dead | Chalasani Pandu Telugu Desam Party Leader Found Dead At his Flat:

Chalasani Pandu was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his flat in Swapnika Perl apartment. According to the police, Pandu was suspected to be murdered over some illegal land settlement issue. Commission row could not be ruled out behind his murder.

Chalasani Pandu, who fought 1999 election unsuccessfully from Vuyyuru Assembly, entered his flat with personal assistant Mahender Reddy. Watchman of the Appartment claimed to see Reddy escaping from window in the midnight. Reddy, who had been working with the TDP leader since last 15-years, might be behind his killing. Meanwhile, the Hyderabad police have launched the investigation into the matter but no arrest has been made so far.

Telugu Desam Party personality from Krishna district, Chalasani Venkateswara Rao (Pandu) found “Murdered” in an unit (Swapnika Pearl) during Madhura Nagar in Hyderabad. Pandu as well as his PA Mahender Reddy reached home in the night as well as was scheduled to leave upon Monday during 5 AM though Pandu found “murdered” during 4th building apartment.

Mahender Reddy was seen evading from the window of unit in late night by the watchman, that shows his impasse in the genocide of Rao. He has been operative with Rao for final fifteen years. Police as of right away not in the state to recover any matter as well as would be probing the case; however not statute out elect associated issues to an bootleg land allotment finished couple of days ago as vital means at the back of this heartless act.

Pandu mislaid 1999 Elections by 1000 votes from Vuyyuru Assembly fighting as an eccentric claimant opposite TDP personality Anne Babu Rao. In 2004 as well as 2009 elections, he again mislaid Penamaluru Assembly to Minister Parathasaradhi by the scanty 170 votes.

The police said that Pandu might have been murdered due to some land disputes. However, commission row could also be one of the reasons for this killing.

Rameswaram Coast | Tower To Be Put Up in Sea off Rameswaram Coast:

To caution Sri Lankan Naval-men from crossing into Indian waters, the Centre has directed expediting construction of the proposed tower-like strucutre at the sixth islet (sand dune) off Dhanushkodi, police and Naval officials said.

The tower, to be put up by Central Public Works Department, would sport the words “Indian Border” written in bold letters in Hindi, Tamil, English and Sinhala on all sides, they said.

The objective of erecting the structure was to caution Sri Lankan Naval men, who had been accused by Tamil Nadu fishermen of entering Indian waters violating the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and attacking them frequently, Marine Police Deputy Superintendent of Police Thiagarajan said.

FC Gold Pride | FC Gold Pride Beats Philadelphia Independence To Win WPS Title:

Christine Sinclair scored twice, Marta had a goal and two assists, and the FC Gold Pride defeated the Philadelphia Independence 4-0 Sunday to win the Women’s Professional Soccer championship.
Kandace Wilson also scored for the Pride, who won their first WPS title in the league’s second season after finishing in last place in 2009.

“It means a lot to our organization,” Pride coach Albertin Montoya said of his team’s one-year turnaround. “Last year we were lacking a little bit of firepower at the top and this year we worked hard at putting together a team that we felt could do it. This is special.”

Philadelphia, which played two games this week to reach the championship game, was no match for the faster, more rested Pride. The Independence managed only three shots on goal while losing to the Pride for the fourth time this season.

“Definitely (fatigue) was a factor, but at the same time it comes down to us deciding to fight,” Philadelphia forward Robyn Adams said. “For us to even get here was a big accomplishment because people predicted us to be in last place, and we proved everybody wrong. We want to be that team on the podium … but today they were the better team.”
Sinclair had 10 goals in the regular season and was second on the Pride in scoring behind Marta before getting two goals against the Independence in front of a near-capacity crowd of 5,228 at Pioneer Stadium.
Sinclair’s first score capped a frenzied 30 seconds when the Pride peppered Philadelphia goalie Val Henderson with five quick shots. Henderson twice made deflecting saves on shots by Marta and had another save before Sinclair got in front of Estelle Johnson to find the open net.

“We knew they would come in with some momentum and it was important for us to get ahead early,” Sinclair said. “Last year we did not have a bad team, I just thought we were unlucky. Today we got it done.”
Wilson made it 2-0 at the 29-minute mark when she raced down the right wing and took a long pass from Marta, danced around Philadelphia defender Allison Fulk then fired a line shot past Henderson. Wilson nearly had a second goal in the 88th minute when her shot glanced off the cross bar.

Marta, a four-time FIFA Player of the Year who led the WPS in scoring for a second straight season, assisted on Sinclair’s second goal in the 53rd minute to give FC Pride a 3-0 lead. Marta, the Brazilian-born star who played last season for the now-defunct Los Angeles Sol, scored the final goal with one minute remaining and was chosen the MVP of the game.

While the Pride received a bye into the championship game after winning the regular season title, the Independence had to win twice to get there. They beat Washington 1-0 in the first round and needed overtime to edge Boston 2-1 on Thursday.

With little rest, Philadelphia struggled to get its offense going.

The Independence managed only one shot on goal in the first half and two in the second. Their best chance to score came late in the second half when Adams shot from 15 feet sailed wide right of the net.
“We played the exact same way we played them last time,” Montoya said. “It’s our style and we were going to go at them. It’s fortunate that they probably had heavy legs, but we worked hard to get that bye and you have to take advantage of it.”

Philadelphia was attempting to become the first expansion franchise to win a WPS championship in its inaugural season.

The championship game marked the end of commissioner Tonya Antonucci’s tenure with the league. Reports circulated that she was being forced out by the league’s owners, but Antonucci announced this month she was leaving for personal reasons. WPS general counsel Anne-Marie Eileraas will take over as chief executive officer.

Antonucci was honored at halftime and thanked by Gold Pride owner Brian NeSmith.

The WPS lost two of its original teams, Los Angeles and St. Louis, because of financial difficulties. But the league recently awarded an expansion team to Buffalo.

Varun Gandhi Weds Yamini Roy Chowdhury | Varun Gandhi Marry Yamini Roy Chowdhury, Bengali Designer:

Yamini Roy Chowdhury, She is basically from Shanti Niketan, West Bengal. He is a Graduate from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. She has also done a Fashion Design Course from University of France. Currently she is living in Delhi and in touch with Varun Gandhi from last five years.

Varun Gandhi, an Indian politician and son of the late Sanjay Gandhi and Maneka Gandhi will marry Yamini Roy, a Bengali girl. Currently he is MP of Pilibhit Lok Sabha constituency and BJP national secretary. He is 30 years old. Her mother Maneka Gandhi said in press conference “Varun will get married with Yamini, who hails from Bengal, in 2010 itself. All members of the Gandhi family including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul will be invited to attend the marriage function,”. Maneka Gandhi, his mother, a MP from Aonla constituency. She is also an internationally recognized animal rights activist and environmentalist.

Varun is grandson of the ex-Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. His father died in a plane crash when he was only three months old and his grandmother was assassinated when Varun was only four. He did his BSc in Economics from LSE via University of London External System in the year 2002. He also completed his MSc in public policy from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, in the year 2004 also through correspondence.

In the 2009 general elections, he got BJP ticket from the Pilibhit constituency. He won the seat by receiving 419,539 votes and defeated his nearest contending candidate, V.M. Singh, by a margin of 281,501 votes.
Varun Gandhi is poised to beat cousin and fellow MP Rahul Gandhi to the altar, and will be the first descendant of Jawaharlal Nehru to marry a Bengali.

A nugget for lovers of political trivia, this will also be the first time since Jawaharlal married Kamala Kaul 94 years ago that a Nehru-Gandhi will wed a Brahmin.

The issue of bride Yamini Roy’s caste is inconsequential for Varun but is laden with symbolism in the politics of the heartland, where the groom-to-be is the BJP member of Parliament from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh.

The Delhi-based Yamini, who is in her mid-20s, is the daughter of Aruna Vasudev, the founder-president of the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema. The family is originally from Santiniketan, where Varun’s late grandmother Indira Gandhi had studied for a while.

Yamini, whose family surname is Roy Chowdhury though she uses only Roy, has her own graphic designing studio, Incarnation, in Delhi. She had trained in the fine arts and graphics at Sorbonne University in Paris after graduating in philosophy from St Stephen’s College, Delhi. The couple are said to share an interest in the fine arts, literature and films.

Varun’s mother Maneka Gandhi would be happy that Yamini is a vegetarian. Maneka, the BJP member of Parliament from Aonla, is an animal rights activist and a staunch promoter of vegetarianism.

Google 12th Birthday  | Google Celebrates 12th Birthday With New Doodle:

27 September 2010 is the 12th birthday anniversary of Google and a new doodle (google logo) featuring a birthday cake and a candle has started to appear across all major versions of the world’s most popular search engine.

Google was first incorporated as a private corporation on the 27th September 1998. That’s already a long time back. Who among us here, back in 1998, thought that Google would be the giant it is today? The 12th Birthday Anniversary of Google doodle is a painting made by 89 year old Los Angeles artist Wayne Thiebaud.

The doodle represents a birthday cake with the candle representing the L in the word Google. Google doodles are now famous and it has become a sort of tradition to expect a new doodle full with creativity on each occasion which we can consider as a significant one.

The first Google doodle was used in August 1998 and was designed by Sergey Brin and Larry Page (G-founders). The doodle was for the Burning Man Festival. Since then, Google doodles is a tradition. We have hundreds of such creative doodle floating around the net and more to come. We all remember this year’s famous Pac Man doodle which enabled any Googler to play the game on Google’s homepage itself.

Well Happy Birthday Google and are we expecting any surprise feature or anything today from Big G? We’ll see this in the coming hours.

Google is a multinational public cloud computing, Internet search, and advertising technologies corporation. Google hosts and develops a number of Internet-based services and products, and generates profit primarily from advertising through its AdWords program.

The company was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, often dubbed the “Google Guys”, while the two were attending Stanford University as Ph.D. candidates. It was first incorporated as a privately held company on September 4, 1998, and its initial public offering followed on August 19, 2004. The company’s stated mission from the outset was “to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful”, and the company’s unofficial slogan — coined by Google engineer Paul Buchheit — is Don’t be evil. In 2006, the company moved to their current headquarters in Mountain View, California.

Google runs over one million servers in data centers around the world, and processes over one billion search requests and twenty petabytes of user-generated data every day. Google’s rapid growth since its incorporation has triggered a chain of products, acquisitions and partnerships beyond the company’s core search engine. The company offers online productivity software, such as its Gmail e-mail software, and social networking tools, including Orkut and, more recently, Google Buzz.

Google’s products extend to the desktop as well, with applications such as the web browser Google Chrome, the Picasa photo organization and editing software, and the Google Talk instant messaging application. More notably, Google leads the development of the Android mobile phone operating system, used on a number of phones such as the Nexus One and Motorola Droid.

Because of its popularity and numerous products, Alexa lists Google as the Internet’s most visited website. Google is also Fortune Magazine’s fourth best place to work, and BrandZ’s most powerful brand in the world. The dominant market position of Google’s services has led to criticism of the company over issues including privacy, copyright, and censorship.

43rd Jnanpith Award | O N V Kurup: Poet Who Won 43rd Jnanpith Award

43rd Jnanpith Award | O N V Kurup: Poet Who Won 43rd Jnanpith Award:

The writings of O N V Kurup, the celebrated Malayalam poet who won the 43rd Jnanpith award, have captivated his readers for long with its lucidity, sweetness and charm. All his poems dealt with the little pleasures and pains of human beings in the backdrop of a beautiful nature he revered in right earnest. Perhaps, no other poet in Malayalam had painted pictures of landscapes through words like O N V, as he is fondly called by admirers.

Love was the central theme of his poems and the several lyrics he wrote for films. While remaining a humanist poet, he never disassociated from the Leftist ideals in which he had deep faith. Entering the poetic world through the pro-Communist theatre movement,O N V had written scores of songs for dramas, especially for the Kerala Peoples’ Arts Centre (KPAC), which are still on the tongues of the Malayalis. Along with distinguished lyricists like Vayalar Ramavarma and P Bhaskaran, O N V was one of the leading poets who could inspire a generation to lean to the Left through revolutionary songs with a romantic tinge.

O N V’s portrayal of nature has an extraordinary charm with which he lured readers into the core of his work. And when nature faced threats, he came out with a dirge for earth `Bhoomikoru Charamageetham’ (Lament for the Earth). O N V is the fifth recipient of the country’s highest literary honour for Malayalam language, after G Sankara Kurup, S K Pottekkat, Thakazhi Shivashankara Pillai and M T Vasudevan Nair. He is the second among Malayalam poet to receive the honour after the first-ever Jnanpith was awarded to the late G Sankara Kurup.

“I consider this as an honour for Malayalam poetry. I truly believe that Malayalam poetry does not lag behind poetry in any other language and I accept this honour recalling the invaluable contributions from the illustrious pioneers of Malayalam literature,” O N V, who is on a tour of the Gulf, said on hearing the news. Sharing the elation of the literary fraternity, Jnanpith laureate M T Vasudevan Nair said this was a moment of great joy for entire Kerala.

“O N V has been writing poetry for over six decades. He still retains the poetic flair in his mind without losing its vibrancy,” Nair said. State Culture Minister M A Baby said he considered this as an honour for entire Keralites as O N V continues to be the `beloved poet’ of Malayalees.

Born on May 27, 1931, to o n krishna kurup and lakshmikutty Amma at Chavara in Kollam district, O N Velu Kurup took to writing at an early age. He shot to fame penning songs for the progressive theatre movement KPAC for its plays like `Ningalenne Communistakki’ (You made me a Communist), which helped the movement to strike roots in Kerala.

His theatre songs stood out for its romantic and folk touch bringing to fore the images of men and nature, giving a heroic aura to the endless struggles of toiling masses and their dreams of the “promised land” devoid of injustices, inequalities and misdemeanors of the feudalist and capitalist classes. O N V, who taught literature for long in colleges across the state, brought out several works in his later phases of literary career, all of them winning applause from readers as well as critics.

Since 1960s, he has been a top-notch lyricist in Malayalam cinema and won as many as 12 state film awards. O N V had produced hundreds of poems collected in several volumes. His work `Ujjayini,’ a poetic exploration of the genius of the great Indian poet and playwright Kalidasa, has been hailed as a masterpiece in modern Indian literature.

O N V had unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha election on CPI ticket in 1991 from Thiruvananthapuram. He was honoured with Padmasree in 1998 and was bestowed with several prestigious literary honours including the `Ezhuthachan Puraskaram’ of Kerala government.

Zakiur Rehman -Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi’s Lawyers Cite Security Concerns, Not To Go to India

Zakiur Rehman -Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi’s Lawyers Cite Security Concerns, Not To Go to India:

Lawyers defending LeT commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and six others charged with involvement in the Mumbai attacks have said none of them will go to India as part of a proposed commission to record the testimony of key witnesses, including surviving attacker Ajmal Kasab.

“We will not go to India because of security concerns. There has been hatred among the general public against Kasab,” senior advocate Khwaja Sultan, the counsel for Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Lakhvi, told PTI.

Mr. Sultan noted that the lawyer of Fahim Ansari, one of the Indians accused of involvement in the Mumbai attacks, was shot dead. “We cannot risk our lives by going to India when we are the counsel for the accused here,” he said. He claimed it would not be easy for the Indian government to provide security to the proposed commission. “We have also conveyed this to the judge,” he said.

Federal Investigation Agency’s special prosecutor Chaudhry Zulifqar Ali told PTI that a defence lawyer should be part of the commission as there would be no problems related to security issues. “The Indian government will ensure our security,” he said.

Pakistan’s FIA has filed an application in the anti-terrorism court conducting the trial of the seven accused seeking the formation of a commission to go to India to record the statements of key witnesses, including Kasab, a magistrate and a police officer.

The prosecution said in its application that a representative of the defence lawyers should be made part of the commission so that he could cross-examine the witnesses.

During the last hearing of the Mumbai attacks case on Saturday, the anti-terrorism court asked the prosecution to clarify if it had obtained permission from Indian authorities for the proposed commission to visit the neighbouring country.

The next hearing of the case is scheduled for October 2.

Lakhvi and the six other suspects have been charged with planning, facilitating and financing the attacks that killed 166 people in Mumbai in November 2008. '

Iraq Bomb  Blast|Iraq Bomb Attacks 37 Killed, Injured Dozens:

Baghdad: A series of bomb attacks across Iraq Sunday killed 37 people and injured dozens more, less than a month after the US declared a military drawdown of its troop levels.
The largest single attack of the day was a car bombing that killed at least 19 people in Baghdad’s al-Mansour neighbourhood, in the southwest of the capital.

Iraqi military sources said that 58 people were injured in that attack, which took place in a crowded area near an outlet for one of Iraq’s biggest privately owned mobile phone providers, AciaCell.

On Aden Square in the north of Baghdad, two car bombs killed 12 people and injured 36 within minutes of the day’s first blast.

A senior Iraqi intelligence officer was also seriously injured when an explosive device planted in his car went off in the Salhiya district in central Baghdad.

In central Faluja, some 60 km west of Baghdad, six people, including three Iraqi soldiers, were killed in a suicide attack, a source at the Faluja police said.

The suicide bomber detonated a car bomb as the army patrol was driving by. That attack left 11 people injured.

Sunday’s blasts come less than a month after a series of blasts across Iraq killed some 64 people and injured 190 in late August.

The attacks came within weeks of US President Barack Obama’s decision to bring US troop numbers down to around 50,000, some three years after they peaked at around 168,000.
